Archana Surana, Founder and Director of ARCH College of Design and Business, delivered a keynote at the International Conference on Fashion and Sustainability hosted by Lusófona University, Portugal. Her address, titled “Responsible Fashion: Swipe Right,” focused on the global significance of Indian handloom and circular fashion, emphasizing sustainable practices in the fashion industry.
As Vice President of the Cumulus Executive Board, Surana highlighted how India’s rich cultural heritage and craftsmanship can provide sustainable solutions for the global fashion industry. She discussed the integration of traditional handloom, circular fashion, and cutting-edge technology, stressing the need for the fashion industry to adopt more sustainable practices, given its significant carbon footprint.
Surana also explored the growing role of circular fashion, predicting a $5.6 billion contribution from circular economy practices by 2030. She underscored the transformative potential of technology in reducing waste and promoting sustainability in fashion.
ARCH College continues to champion sustainability through initiatives like solar energy conservation and water harvesting, while fostering innovation in design education to achieve sustainable development goals (SDGs). The three-day conference also featured global experts in fashion, sustainability, and technology, with Surana’s insights receiving widespread acclaim.
