The Elements of Design ... or the Sensory Properties are the building blocks of art. Artists use the elements to express their ideas, just as a writer uses words to express ideas. The Elements of Design are sometimes called Sensory Properties because the viewer can sfeel them with their senses. The basic elements of design are as follows:
LINE, COLOUR, SHAPE, NEGATIVE SPACE, TEXTURE, TYPOGRAPHY, SCALE, HIERARCHY, CONTRAST, EMPHASIS and HARMONY. With the understanding of these basic elements, one can make creative and innovative works in graphics, products, fashion, or any other design domains.
This course will help students to understand the concept of the design and its element in the real sense, create and understand the design process. It will sensitize and make the learner aware how Designers, Architects think, conceptualize, visualize and work on Design solutions. The course will describe the relationship of form and content, as well as form and function. Explain the different sources that influence a designer's perception of the visual world. The Elements and Principles are essential to understanding, interpreting and talking about art.
