Masterclass on Storytelling
Master Classes are a part of teaching and learning at ARCH. Every Wednesday we invite different subject experts to talk to our students on relevant topics and field their questions.
A Masterclass on “STORYTELLING” was conducted by Dr. Anand James Dev, Dean Academics & Strategic Communication, Mentor Communication, Digital & Product Design, ARCH College of Design and Business.
Storytelling is an account of events, or experiences, either true or fictitious; designed to interest, amuse, or instruct.
He talked about design questions that drive design judgments based on thinking skills, and narrative skills that will help young designers to develop these skills whether for a product, a business, or a film. He also explained how the storytelling process has a dynamic connection of the human cognition process to an evolved capacity of the human mind to act creatively by means of a semiotic framework.
Thus as a process, storytelling has a component of making inferences- abductive reasoning- a transferable skill, on which a design academic program focuses on.
